The expedition project “Trail of Change” (TOC), first carried out at the end of 2013, will enter the next round in October 2014, with Sympatex once again as the expedition’s title sponsor. The destination is the Annapurna Himalayas, considered the wildest and most remote high-altitude mountains in the world. The long-term project is also being supported by the outdoor outfitter Vaude.
Focus on “change” and “mountaineering”
On this year’s expedition, Third Pole will accompany the glacier and steep-face researcher Fritz Striewski. In addition to research on climate change, sociocultural and socio-economic changes in Himalayan living environments are also a central topic of focus for the scientific project. “We love trekking, mountaineering and the Himalayas, which is why we are examining this region,” explains Hannes Künkel, expedition leader and Managing Director of Third Pole. “It’s high time we dedicate ourselves to the change in the Himalayas with a new perspective and approach,” says Künkel.
