In the Fashion category, the prize went to Pier 14 – a store in Zinnowitz, on the isle of Usedom. The owner-managed family business won the hearts of the jury with its perfect combination of clothing retail and catering. A modern glass extension lends the historic villa an architecturally modern look.
Rewe to go in Hagen primarily scored points in the Food category by focusing on the needs of its customers. Located at the station, Rewe stocks a large amount of convenience products that can be consumed on the go. The sophisticated design of the store includes a lounge area complete with old station clock, making customers feel quite at home.
The jury recognised two award-winners in the Living category: Ikea in Hamburg Altona and Kare in Munich both share first prize. Ikea was honoured in particular for its courage to deviate from its standard greenfield concept to blend in with Hamburg’s city centre. This includes a special bicycle delivery concept to reduce traffic for local residents and actively encourage urban development. Kare in Munich stands out first and foremost due to its extraordinary location in a former power station. Despite the challenging architecture of the building, Kare achieves an outstanding product display and provides the perfect link between its on- and offline sales.
The Out of Line category was swept up by Munich’s Rose Biketown. The bricks-and-mortar bike store exploits the potential of an extraordinary omni-channel approach to helping and advising customers. The customised bike configuration is shown on screens, and bicycles are displayed in the sales room as if they were works of art.
The winners were determined by a jury composed of experts from retail companies and organisations. They were judged according to criteria such as degree of innovation, customer benefits and value-added potential. The awards were presented during the German Commercial Real Estate Congress in Berlin.
